10 Myths About Internet Marketing

10 Internet Marketing Myths

  1. You don’t need a web site to become a successful online entrepreneur. Many successful online business people build opt-in email campaigns and market to their list, without ever designing or owning their own site.
  2. You don’t need your own product, or products, to make money on the Internet. Though many “experts” claim that you need complete control over the product you are selling, I personally know many online marketers making $10,000 to $50,000 a month or more that have never owned their own product.
  3. You don’t need to build a “brand” or make your name widely known to be successful online. I have read advice about positioning yourself as an expert in a niche to become wealthy. While this is not necessarily incorrect, it is far from a requirement. Some of the most successful Internet entrepreneurs are people we have never heard of because they value their privacy and don’t need to be a well-known “expert” to get rich.
  4. You don’t need to be a world-class writer to create sales letters or information products to sell. In addition, you don’t even have to pay anyone else to write them for you.
  5. You don’t need a college degree to become wealthy in an Internet marketing business.
  6. You don’t have to concentrate on one type of marketing to become wealthy. Niches are great, but even in a narrow niche you may be able to offer your own information products, other people’s information products, an affiliate offer, consulting, services or a wide range of other things to profit. And who says you have to concentrate on a single niche? (OK, some people do say that, but they are wrong.)
  7. You don’t need to be a search engine optimization SEO expert to build web sites that rank well in the search engines. Just do a few simple things correctly, add a little bit of work and effort, and your sites will do fine.
  8. You don’t have to have a large advertising budget to generate a large amount of sales, no matter what type of products or services you have.
  9. You shouldn’t believe everything you read on forums, or for that matter much of anything you read on forums, even if the poster has thousands of posts.
  10. You shouldn’t believe all the “get rich quick” hype offered in many sales letters and online marketing materials. I realize most of you out there reading this already know this, but I feel it is important enough to say anyway. There is no doubt that just about anyone can make a great deal of money online, but it does take at least some degree of effort and work.
